Create Your CV With ChatGPT or Claude

1. What this actually does

Once connected, SnapMyCV gives your AI assistant a set of account tools it can call on your behalf: it can list your CVs, read one, create a new one from the details you describe, edit any section, switch templates, publish or unpublish a CV at your public address, and generate an A4 PDF link. Everything it does happens inside your own SnapMyCV account, on your own CVs.

Because it works on your real account, the connector asks you to sign in to SnapMyCV the first time you add it (a standard OAuth step, the same idea as 'Sign in with Google' elsewhere). You approve the access once; after that the assistant can help without signing you in again. It only ever touches your own CVs — it can't reach anyone else's, and it can't delete a CV or change your account settings.

2. What you'll need

Not much. You need a ChatGPT or Claude account that supports custom connectors (sometimes called custom tools or MCP connectors), a free SnapMyCV account to sign in to when you connect, and a rough idea of what you want on your CV — the roles you have held, your education, and the skills you want to highlight. You can paste in an old CV, a LinkedIn export, or simply talk through your history; the assistant will structure it for you.

• A ChatGPT or Claude account that allows adding a custom connector.
• A free SnapMyCV account — you'll sign in once when you add the connector, and you can create it during that step.
• Your work history in any form — notes, an old CV, or just from memory.

3. Connect SnapMyCV in Claude

In Claude, open the connectors settings and choose to add a custom connector. Give it a name like 'SnapMyCV' and paste in the server address below. The first time Claude uses it, a SnapMyCV sign-in window opens — log in (or create a free account) and approve access. That one-time step authorizes the connector to work on your CVs.

Once connected, Claude can use the SnapMyCV tools automatically. You do not need to name them — just ask for a CV, or ask to change one, in normal language and Claude will pick the right tool.

4. Connect SnapMyCV in ChatGPT

ChatGPT supports the same kind of custom connector. Open the connector or tools settings, add a new custom connector, and paste in the same server address used for Claude. The first time it runs, you'll be asked to sign in to SnapMyCV and approve access, exactly as in Claude.

After you've authorized it, the SnapMyCV tools are available in your conversations. As with Claude, you simply ask for a CV — or ask to edit or publish one — and ChatGPT calls the right tool for you, then shows you the resulting link.

5. Ask for your CV

With the connector in place, describe what you want in plain language. The more specific you are about roles, dates, and achievements, the better the first draft. You can also paste an existing CV and ask the assistant to restructure and improve it.

A good prompt looks like: 'Create a CV for me on SnapMyCV. I'm a frontend developer with five years of experience — three years at a fintech startup building React dashboards, two years before that at an agency. I have a computer science degree from 2019. Highlight React, TypeScript, accessibility, and design systems. Use a clean, modern template.'

The assistant will draft the summary, experience bullets, skills, and education, create the CV in your account, and give you a link to open it. From there you can keep chatting — 'make the summary punchier', 'add a projects section', 'switch to a two-column template', 'publish it' — and the assistant edits the same CV directly.

6. Open your CV and keep refining

Open the link the assistant gives you and you'll see the rendered CV in your SnapMyCV account, exactly as it will print. Because you signed in when you connected, it's already saved to your dashboard — there is no separate claim step for the connector.

From there it behaves like any CV built on SnapMyCV: edit any field in the live editor, switch between templates, download a polished A4 PDF, and optionally publish it at your own public link such as yourname.snapmycv.com to share as one URL. You can make those same changes from chat or by hand — whichever you prefer.

7. Is it safe? What the connector can and can't do

The connector uses a standard OAuth sign-in, so the assistant never sees your password — you log in on SnapMyCV's own page and grant access there, and you can revoke that access at any time from your account settings. It acts only on the CVs in your own account and nothing else.

Its abilities are scoped on purpose: it can read, create, edit, and publish or unpublish your CVs, and generate PDF links. It deliberately cannot delete a CV or change your account settings, and it can never reach another person's data. Nothing is made public unless you — or the assistant, at your request — choose to publish it.

8. For developers: the no-sign-in REST API

If you are building your own agent or a sign-up-free flow rather than connecting a personal account, there is a plain REST equivalent that creates a CV draft without any login. Send a POST request to https://www.snapmycv.com/api/agent/drafts with a JSON body containing title, optional personal, an optional sections array, and an optional template_slug. The response includes a claim_url to show the user.

Unlike the account connector above, this path is anonymous and create-only: the endpoint only creates drafts, it is rate-limited, and the returned link is single-use and expires after seven days. Always surface the claim_url to the person so they can sign in, claim, and edit their CV.
