Create Your CV With ChatGPT or Claude

You can now create a CV on SnapMyCV without filling in a single form. If you already use ChatGPT or Claude, you can connect SnapMyCV as a tool, describe your experience in plain language, and the assistant will draft a complete, professionally formatted CV for you. It then hands you a link to open the result, keep it in a free account, edit it, download a PDF, and publish it at your own address.

This guide walks through connecting SnapMyCV to Claude and to ChatGPT, the kind of prompt that produces a good CV, and what happens when you open your link. There is no cost and no credit card — exactly like building a CV by hand on the site.

1. What this actually does

SnapMyCV exposes a single, create-only tool that AI assistants can call: it takes the structured details of a CV (your name, headline, summary, experience, skills, and so on) and turns them into a draft on SnapMyCV. The assistant never signs in as you and cannot read or change anything you already have — it can only create a new draft and hand back a one-time link to it.

When the tool runs, you receive a claim link. Opening it shows the finished CV and lets you save it to a free SnapMyCV account, where you can refine the wording, switch templates, download an A4 PDF, and publish it at a personal address such as yourname.snapmycv.com. The link is single-use and expires after seven days, so unclaimed drafts clean themselves up.

2. What you'll need

Almost nothing. You need a ChatGPT or Claude account that supports custom connectors (sometimes called custom tools or MCP connectors), and a rough idea of what you want on your CV — the roles you have held, your education, and the skills you want to highlight. You can paste in an old CV, a LinkedIn export, or simply talk through your history; the assistant will structure it for you.

  • A ChatGPT or Claude account that allows adding a custom connector.
  • Your work history in any form — notes, an old CV, or just from memory.
  • A few minutes to review and claim the result. No SnapMyCV account is needed until you decide to keep the CV.

3. Connect SnapMyCV in Claude

In Claude, open the connectors settings and choose to add a custom connector. Give it a name like 'SnapMyCV' and paste in the server address below. Claude speaks to it directly — there is no sign-in step and no API key, because the connector can only ever create a draft.

Connector URL: https://www.snapmycv.com/api/mcp

Once it is added, Claude will list a tool called create_cv_draft. You do not need to call it by name — just ask for a CV in normal language and Claude will use it when appropriate.

4. Connect SnapMyCV in ChatGPT

ChatGPT supports the same kind of custom connector. Open the connector or tools settings, add a new custom connector, and paste in the same server address used for Claude. No authentication is required.

Connector URL: https://www.snapmycv.com/api/mcp

After adding it, the create_cv_draft tool becomes available in your conversations. As with Claude, you simply ask for a CV and ChatGPT calls the tool for you, then shows you the resulting link.

5. Ask for your CV

With the connector in place, describe what you want in plain language. The more specific you are about roles, dates, and achievements, the better the first draft. You can also paste an existing CV and ask the assistant to restructure and improve it.

A good prompt looks like: 'Create a CV for me on SnapMyCV. I'm a frontend developer with five years of experience — three years at a fintech startup building React dashboards, two years before that at an agency. I have a computer science degree from 2019. Highlight React, TypeScript, accessibility, and design systems. Use a clean, modern template.'

The assistant will draft the summary, experience bullets, skills, and education, call the tool, and reply with your claim link. If something is off, ask it to adjust the wording or add a section and run it again — each run produces a fresh draft.

6. Open your link and keep the CV

Click the claim link the assistant gives you. You will see the rendered CV exactly as it will print. To keep it, sign up for a free account (email or Google) — this saves the CV to your dashboard so it is yours permanently.

From there it behaves like any CV built on SnapMyCV: edit any field in the live editor, switch between templates, download a polished A4 PDF, and optionally publish it at your own public link to share as one URL. Remember the claim link is single-use and expires after seven days, so claim it once you are happy.

7. Is it safe? What the connector can and can't do

The connector is deliberately limited. It is create-only: it can generate a new CV draft and return a link, and that is the entire surface. It cannot read your existing CVs, list your account, change anything, or sign in on your behalf — there is no authentication precisely because there is nothing sensitive it can reach.

Drafts created this way are quarantined until you claim them, and any draft you never open deletes itself after seven days. Nothing is published or made public unless you claim the CV and choose to publish it yourself. In short, the worst an assistant can do is create a CV draft and hand you a link to it.

8. For developers: the REST API

If you are building your own agent or integration rather than using ChatGPT or Claude, there is a plain REST equivalent. Send a POST request to https://www.snapmycv.com/api/agent/drafts with a JSON body containing title, optional personal_info, an optional sections array, and an optional template_slug. The response includes a claim_url to show the user.

The same rules apply: the endpoint only creates drafts, it is rate-limited, and the returned link is single-use and expires after seven days. Always surface the claim_url to the person so they can keep and edit their CV.
